CSE Nursing Students Gather for Research Day

More than 200 nurses and nursing students gathered at the Annunciation Center at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, on October 7 to hear keynote speaker Dr. Mary deChesnay, director of the Wellstar School of Nursing at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She discussed the important role life history methodology can play in building an evidence base for nursing practice.

Dr. deChesnay, studied patients with varied illnesses - including multiple sclerosis and cancer - to understand how they coped with their health challenges.  She concluded that life history is a viable research technique, and in itself can be therapeutic. She told the audience, "Those successful at overcoming vulnerability had several characteristics in common, including: the ability to cope, perseverance, support of friends and family, the ability to help others; and some element of spirituality."

In addition to the key note speech, student poster presentations were displayed.
