Overview

The mission of the Health and Physical Education Department strives to provide all students with the ability to develop a lifetime of fitness and good health. The department affords all students the opportunity to incorporate knowledge, skills, attitude, self-awareness, and self-determination while enhancing the principles of wellness. The departmental emphasis is on the multidimensional components of the ongoing process to maintain a lifetime of wellness. All programs are open to all divisions of the college. Many concentrations have the opportunity to sit for national exams for certification if students meet the criteria.

Fitness


Requirements for a Minor in Fitness

The Program provides all undergraduate students with courses that will fulfill the Graduation Requirement of two (2) credits. A broad spectrum of activity and theory courses offer an array of choices for students to explore.

The Program also offers two minors: Coaching and Personal Fitness.

Coaching Minor 

The Coaching Minor program prepares students to take a leadership role within sports. The courses within the minor are modeled on the National Standards for Coaching. These standards emphasize theory, practice, safety and professionalism. The New Jersey School Independent Athletic Association is now requiring all coaches to take professional coaching courses before the will be allowed to coach in New Jersey.

Personal Fitness Minor

The Personal Fitness Minor offers students the opportunity to pursue the National Certification in Strength and Conditioning after completion of the minor. Other certificates may also be available from other organizations upon completion of the minor and passing of national certification examinations. The Personal Fitness minor is also offered in the Graduate Foods and Nutrition Department as a certificate program which provides stimulating exchanges and challenges for all participants.
