The Arts at CSE

The Arts Come Alive at CSE

Shakespeare under the stars in the Greek Theater … musical Valentines and original compositions … art exhibitions featuring exciting media … the arts play a strong role in campus life. Whether it’s the latest art show in the Maloney Art Gallery, or a musical or theatrical performance in Dolan Performance Hall or the Greek theater, the arts at CSE do what they do best, bring students, their families and our neighbors in the surrounding communities together.

Dolan Performance Hall

The Dolan Performance Hall, located on the ground floor of CSE’s Annunciation Center, is a welcome addition to the area’s roster of performance facilities. The 560-seat hall with its splendid acoustics has hosted original classical music compositions, plays and lectures. Since it opened in 2007, the Dolan Performance Hall has become a focus of campus life while it has drawn the public-at-large to its functions.

Greek Theatre

The Greek Theatre, since its creation in 1932, has been a popular site on the CSE campus. Throughout the decades, students, faculty and visitors have gathered at the outdoor arena for plays, concerts, picnics or just to study and read. Every four years, a traditional Greek play is produced here. Although this recreation of the Theater of Dionysius in Athens is an inspiration from a far off country and a long-ago era, it was built as a home-grown, College project. Sister Marie Victoire Corr of the Latin Department supervised its construction using stones gathered from the campus. The employees of the College did the actual work of building the theatre, making it a campus-wide labor of love.

Morris Theatre Company

Sponsored by the Communication Department at the College of Saint Elizabeth, the newly created Morris Theatre Company made its home at CSE in 2009 with its inaugural performance of Rogers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. It was produced last January in the Dolan Performance Hall with CSE visiting instructor Terry Koyce as its artistic director. Described as a campus/community company, the drama group brings together CSE students and theatre enthusiasts from outside the campus. CSE welcomes the theatre company and is looking forward to sharing future performances with our neighbors in the surrounding communities.

Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery

Since opening in 2007, the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery, located on the main floor of CSE’s Annunciation Center, has hosted high caliber, themed exhibitions that correspond to the curricula and events on campus and reflect the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion. The art work is selected from artists around the country and especially from the New Jersey/New York/ Philadelphia area. Lectures, gallery talks, workshops and panel discussions by artists and arts professionals are also offered to the campus community and visitors on a continuing basis. Please visit the Gallery’s interactive website for more information about current and upcoming shows and programs.
